Loomis-Chaffee School 1966-1971
Low resolution scans of Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides. A few have been cleaned up. If you know the people and event in a particular photograph, please make a comment and let me know.
The initial series of photos are "Once Upon a Mattress" sometime during the fall of 1970 or spring of 1971. Karen Bradley was the unacknowledged stage manager and was left out of the official program! Lee West, me, and Paul Murphy as part of the Printing Club may have printed the tickets with good old fashioned lead type as we did with other shows.

on September 10, 2011What a delightful surprise to come across these images from 40 years ago. We all looked so young. In viewing the photos many memories of those years at Loomis Chaffee come back to life, some good, some bad. The photos containing Toby Fales were particularly poignant as he was a close friend and passed away just a few short years after graduating from U of Penn. I have no idea when these were originally posted but how great to find the photos.
As the song goes . . "Thanks for the memories"!

on August 5, 2011Once Upon A Mattress ran from May 11-14, 1971. It was an experience unlike any we'd seen in our young lives: it showed us that we had the power to make a profound impact in the world. We knew at the time that we had put on a great show. After a lifetime of watching theater, I now know that many of us performed as well as top professionals. At least two of our cast members indeed became successful performers. One of them, Suzy (Rothfield) Thompson, told me recently "You know why we were so great? It's because we were fearless." As I looked at these pictures, the first and most vivid images that came to me were those of my 17-year-old son and my 16-year-old daughter holding audiences spellbound in their own high school performances. Talent is all around us, not just among the famous. We couldn't do much better than working to give more young people opportunities like this.

on August 3, 2011Wow, this is cool. I'm pretty sure that is Alan Sandler in the red outfit in picture 1 and many of the One Upon A Mattress photos, and the red haired Irish guy in picture 20, 36 etc' s name is on the tip of my tongue for now. Jim Ford with his flute in picture 33. Tougaloo is watching you Jim. I think it is Mr Tzeuchler (sp.)in picture 58. maybe Mike Lederman in the center of picture 62, brown sweater, and definitely Jim Kingston along with Terry Fisher in picture 84.
Now if I could only figure out why I came into this room.
Thanks for the memories Rick.
